South Lake Union Streetcar
South Lake Union Line Welcomes ORCA Fare Transaction Technology

Do you use an ORCA card to ride transit in the Puget Sound region?  The South Lake Union Streetcar now provides ORCA fare transaction processors at most station platforms.  Look for the yellow posts.  If you are transferring to or from a bus or Link Light Rail, the ORCA system will calculate your transfer.  For more information, click here.  Thanks for riding!

First Hill Streetcar
Construction is nearly complete

Construction on the First Hill Streetcar began in April, 2012, and is now substantially complete! The major components of the track, maintenance and operations facility, and electrical power system have been installed, and the small remaining issues identified by City inspectors are now being addressed by the contractor. At the same time, inspections and testing procedures are taking place. In September, we will begin testing the streetcars and training operators.

Once opened, the First Hill Streetcar will provide an important link in the regional transit system, connecting the diverse and vibrant neighborhoods of Capitol Hill, First Hill, Central Area, Yesler Terrace, the Chinatown International District, and Pioneer Square. It will serve major employment centers, medical facilities (Harborview, Swedish, and Virginia Mason), institutions of higher learning (Seattle University and Seattle Central College), and major sporting events venues (Century Link and Safeco Fields).

The streetcar will operate with ten stations along S Jackson Street, 14th Avenue S, Yesler Way, and Broadway, between Occidental in Pioneer Square and Denny on Capitol Hill. Once operational, the system will be operated by King County Metro, Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. On Sundays and holidays it will run from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. The fare will be the same as that for Metro buses. ORCA cards and transfers will be accepted.

The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in a partnership with Sound Transit with funding of $134 million provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan.
